Environmental Geology - Drilling and Coring

The Mississippi Office of Geology was originally drilling (augering) in 1938. The first drilling rig was a Failing 750 with 500 feet of drill stem. The Mississippi Office of Geology has had a Failing 1500 drilling rig and program continuously since 1965. The MOOG is among a handful of state surveys with its own data collection capability through drilling.

Capabilities for the current Failing 1500 rig are approximately 800 feet of drill depth and approximately 500 feet of core depth.

We are not a commercial drilling company. We will participate in funded research projects that benefit the State’s knowledge of geology or hydrogeology. For information and scheduling please contact Paul C. Parrish at 601-354-6328.
